Summary on 14Apr07

People returned to the playing mood after the long weekend for easter. Here is the contributuion from our Lodde for this weeks story!!..

We gathered as usual at the same place and same time. Though there were some guys playing there next to our pitch, we never mind that.
The day started with Kengu’s B’day celebration Boms. But he is ok cos me and Bapi didn’t get chance to blast his butt.
As usual team was made with me kengu Bapi Shouri Subbu etc one side and Shreesha Labbi Rudra Majid as our opponents. We opeted to bat first. Santhosha was the new comedy on the field.
Thanks to the top order batsmen including psycho we could make only 58 with the help of good batting by Kengu and Shouri.
We started off with a decent bowling Kengu leading from the front and slow start from the opponents. But Majid and Rudra finished well by blasting the middle order. We helped them to do this with our poor fielding.
Sanjay matte Vatsange tata Next match was limited to 10 Overs and we were put to bowling. Good bowling initially seemed to contain them. But very poor management and bowling lead them to score 76 by good batting show by Labbi.
We started chasing the mammoth total wt 6RPO. But our batsmen failed to accelerate and got bowled out within the stipulated Overs.

Lessons learnt: Bapat: never bowl off spin
Santhosha: To get good pair of shoes
Subbu: never bowl in slog overs.
Psycho: Slip alli field madidre slip aagolla

Weekend Cricket Backin Action

After the debacle of the Indian cricket in the World cup, weekend cricketers resumed playing in the weekend.

It was a really long delay, from Deepavali to Shivaratri (entire winter season), people had some reason to miss out for action and in the end, the play was to be called off due to the attendence reasons...
Some of the prominent reasons being the coldness of the winter, holiday season, Travel, exams.. etc etc.

The world cup feaver was over before it really begun. It was the hot topic of discussion for the weekend cricketers on the saturday morning. Some had watched the match till Tendulkar got out, some till Dhoni and some watched till the end of the Match hoping for a Miracle to happen. Intersting fact was most of the people who had swithed off the TV sets in the middle of the innings, did switch on the TV sets in the morning hoping to hear the Miracle News in the morning News... Such is the cricket mania in our country..

Coming back to the weekend cricket, there were some noticable diffrence in the ground and its surroundings. There was too much cricket played in absence of us and the old pitch was tampered. The trees in the grounds had blossomed and we could see the green leaves arround.

We had a decent population in the grounds on both the weekends (30Mar and 24th of March).

Hoping to see more crowd and more enthu for the cricket.. :)

Farewell to Bachelor Majid

Majid was pre-occupied with "other matters" and it reflected in his performance.
His umpiring was, poor at best (he saw a nick and gave the first batsman out when the ball missed the edge of the bat atleast by 3-4 inches). Santosh recognised this early and relieved him of his duties as far as umpiring was concerned. Still there was hope that Majid would silence us all with a quick-fire 25. Well when we came down to bat, he fell exactly 25 runs short of this personal target when he was bowled for a duck after having made elaborate adjustments to his gear.
He was not spared though. He got a fair share of bachelor bumps at the end of the game…

Season of no Action!!!

Its been a long time since we had some action on saturdays.. The factors contributing might be some people going abroad for work, series of holidays.. Karnataka bandh making the weekend cricketers work on saturday.

But still there was some effort made by few enthu guys to get the spirt up and going.
An attempt was made to play on the bandh day 04OCT to play. Close to 10 people turned up on the Bandh wednesday to play but there was no space left in the field to play for the weekend cricketers!!.. after searching the nook and corner of the University grounds... weekend cricketers decided to go home back...

One more attempt was made on 14th of OCt to play.. 6 guys turned up. We decided to play the short cricket.. Short cricket was fun with some funny rules and some funny cooked up rules by kengu.. teams were Kengu/Adithya/Raghuram V/S Majid/Bapat/Sandeep..

As usual kengu cooked up some facinating funny rules to win the series..

Hope to see all of you back in action after the Deepavali Holidays!!!

Clash of Ego's overtakes the spirit of cricket

It was a dull saturday.. Literally interms of the no of participants and also with spirit in which the game was played. @ 7-30Am in the morning only 7 guys turn up which dampened the spirits of the people assembled. As time passed, 2 more guys dropped in. All the guys who had replied the rollcall as coming chickened out... Only 9 people total

Game started with the Santosha's batting first scoring 60 runs in 8 overs.. Team batting second started with a good chase.. but the highlight of the saturday cricket was the sudden outburts between majid and santosha at the end of the second innings...

It was a clear indication of the clash of ego's.. The incident which led to this altercation was nothing serious. But it was a clear example that when some one takes it personal.. these kinds of incidents happen. Its not blaming any of the person involved.. Just a awaking call to every one not to take any incidents which happen personally. We all have a long way to go and some small such incidents should not dampen the spirits. We all should put such incidents as a bad dream and should come back with double the energy to the field next week.

The match came to a nailbiting finish with santosha's winning by 1 run. Fine batting by Sandeepa helped the Bapats to take the match to the final ball.

Hapy Gouri and Ganesha festival wishes to you all in advance....

Weekend Cricket Wishes..

Ravish and Jyotsna tied the knot on 11 Aug..

Once upon a time Ravish was active in the weekend cricket league. Weekend cricketers Kengu, Kabbur, Pada had been on the ocassion to wish the couple on behalf of weekend cricketers..

Independence Day special : PJ Retires???

Happy Independence day for the readers of weekend cricket blog.

The situation of our soo called Master Blaster PJ is very much similar to Indian Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. He is taking time to come back to the competative cricket.

In the mean time there were rumors that Mr PJ might retire from the weekend cricket league and might be looking for opourtinity as a Umpire or a commentator for the weekend cricket league.

When our correspondent contacted PJ on this, PJ refused once again to talk on this aspect. Also Basha who is active in the field was afraid to talk about his Bade Miayai..

It was the decided by the player of the weekend cricket league that if PJ decides to retire, then there would be a Benifit Match organised for PJ and the proceedings will be donated to PJ for starting his new venture.. along with a fitting farewell to the much self adored cricketer!!

Should we give some more time for PJ to get back from the marriage phase or should we force him to retire from the weekend cricket is the million dollar question to be answered by you all...

Kengu's Back in form

After the continous 2 weeks of white wash.. Kengus came back strongly with a very good performace to level the series 1-1.

It was reported that the players of kengus team were teased by the santosha's team members on the web while chatting. It was pressure situation in kengus team to come with a good performance.

Lot of cricket enthuiasts had dropped in to the field on the early morning of saturday.
New entry was Raghuram. Me and raghuram were classmates and team mates in NIE mysore.
Raghu with cool out look is a good allround cricketer. Me and raghu have jointly won soo many matches for our class team. Good to see Raghu back in cricket. It was Kabbur Prasad who got Raghu to the field.. well done kabburi...

Interstingly Prasda Kabbur was also seen in the field...!

Winning the toss santosha's opting to bat first.. made mere 61 runs in 12 over. Some good bowling performance by Kengus restricted them. It was chased by the kengus easily with 2 wickets remaining. Good comeback Kengus..

Its been observed that on saturday morning for the first match, the team batitng second has most wins.. This is the trend which is been noticed soo far..

Second match again choosing to bat... santoshas came back strongly by posting a total of 73. Kengus chasing 74 came short by 12 runs.. It was 1-1 in the end..

White wash by Santoshas...July 30

After the huge pre match buildup.. It was a record in the history of the weekend cricket.
There were arround 28 people on the field on the saturday morning.. As the match had progressed people started to drop in. We never knew how many people were in each side.

After soo much hype created by PJ.. PJ failed to show up in the field. When asked by the others in the field about PJ, Basha gave a not soo valid reason and tried to finish off the topic..

The stage was perfectly set for the clash. In both the matches santoshas claimed upper hand.
First match santosha's chased the total and in the second santosha's put the mamooth total of 97 in 12 overs. Kengus failed to defend in the first match and in the second match feel short by 15 runs.

Its time when Kengu's have to come with an inspired performance. This is the second week in a row that kengus r facing the 2-0 white wash..

The PreMatch Buildup..

After the pale saturdy last week when the soo called Big guns didn't fire with santosha's side sweeping 2-0... the build up to the coming weekend started.

The attraction for the coming weekend cricket is that Majid should be back in action.. Batsmen in the Kengu camp r happy with this statement.. Subbu coming from mUmbai this weekend.
and our married PJ might show up...

There was a big debate about PJ getting retired from the competitive cricket once getting married. PJ has commented on the media that he will be back in action with the coming weekend.. So lets hope to see Uncle PJ on the field.

Binary karthik who was spent couple of weeks in the english county championship to getback the binary jinx in the weekend league might be back. But depends on his mental and physical fitness..

So all these will be leading to a fascinating battle on the ground between the two teams.. Saturday would be worth money for the spectators..

Match fixing in the Saturday cricket!!!!!!!!......... Our spys have got the telephonic conversation between two players.. below goes the text.. The names have been masked for the security reasons... BCCI might appoint the CBI to investigate for these kind of transactions.. happeing in the weekend cricket league..
